Waterproof Capacitive Touch Screens for harsh working environments
Capacitive Touch Screens have advanced considerably over the last few years, enabling them to be easily adapted to harsh and demanding working conditions.
How does Capacitive Touch Technology work?
Capacitive touch screens use a covered glass LCD or TFT panel with a capacitive layer and static charge. When the screen is touched with a finger or conductive stylus some of the charge is transferred from the device to the finger or stylus, the controller and system then work out where the touch was located enabling a task or action to be performed.
User familiarity, design developments and low tooling costs, have led to capacitive touch screens to be widely used for industrial and commercial applications. The ability for them to be operated with a gloved finger and in challenging conditions makes them an excellent choice of interface for many engineers that are given specific design requirements.
Developments with Capacitive Touch Technology
Developments with the construction of capacitive touch screens, such as the extremely durable top layer of glass, have made them more widely accessible in industrial sectors. A particular area of focus has been on water resistant properties.
ClickTouch have developed Aqua Touch, a solution which allows the use of touchscreens in the most humid of conditions, ideal for any appliance or application that is exposed to water on a daily basis.
The ability to easily wipe device surface of liquids, dirt, rain, dust, or grease opens up the potential for the technology to be used in many environments. Industries such as food processing can particularly benefit from Aqua Touch waterproof touchscreens, due to consist cleaning requirements to meet health and safety regulations.
